Chambers Visit the Port of SouthamptonMinimize
Chambers Visit the Port of Southampton

A small party from the British Chambers of Commerce and local Chambers were treated to an introduction to what happens to an export consignment once the documentation is complete and the goods start their journey.

Meachers Global Logistics kindly hosted an initial presentation at their premises in Southampton where the activities of the freight forwarder were explained to the group.    The importance of communication between the exporter and the freight forwarder, and of getting the documentation correct, became apparent as the group learned about the challenges which freight forwarders face in providing the level of service which their customers require.

Having understood the different requirements for road, sea and air consignments, the group then transferred to the Port of Southampton to see the theory in action.   Hosted by D P World, the group received a very interesting presentation on the logistical issues of managing the huge amount of export containers handled by the port each day, and plans for future expansion were outlined.  This was followed by a tour of the port where the size and volume of containers being handled on a daily basis was clearly illustrated.

This short visit was a vauable insight into the world of export beyond documentation, and the party very much appreciated the hospitality of Meachers Global Logistics and D P World, who hosted this event.

Effect of the Flight Ban in Europe?

Apr 20 2010 12:00AM

On Monday 19th April there was a 24% drop in the number of certified documents processed using e-Cert.  We assume this reflects the number of export shipments which are being held up during the ban on air traffic in Europe.    We have also heard that companies that have shipped their goods are having difficulty getting their documents to their destination to enable the goods to be cleared for import.

If you have found innovative ways of getting your goods or documents to their destination, let us know and we will share this with other e-Cert users.  Send us your story

e-Cert Workshop popular with Exporters in Essex

Aug 6 2009 12:00AM

Delegates at a recent e-Cert workshop held in Essex were keen to learn how to get going with e-Cert to save them time and money.

Most of those attending were aware of e-Cert but hadn't had time to consider how this service might help them.  The opportunity to take a couple of hours to focus on this was enthusiastically received by all those attending.

If you would like to know more, ask you Chamber about e-Cert workshops in your area.
